Imposter Syndrome
We all have doubts and fears. But have you ever felt like you might be in over your head and afraid those around you would find out? That, in essence, is what most of us feel in the midst of Imposter Syndrome.
It’s not a diagnosis. It’s not a disorder. But man, does it do a number on your thoughts! I’ve been there and since launching my book, I’ve discovered that I am by no means alone. What I can tell you is that the best way through it is to acknowledge it for what it is, and to open up about it to your support system (family, friends, mentors, etc). Honing your ability to identify those imposter thoughts makes it easier to flip them and prevent your subconscious from buying into them.
If you think you might be dealing with imposter syndrome, first let me tell you that it’s ok. There’s nothing wrong with you. Second, let me encourage you to speak up. And most importantly, I cannot emphasize enough the importance of asking for help! You will likely find yourself surprised to know that you aren’t alone. And you will open yourself up to positive contradictions (aka you do belong, you can do this) to those nasty thoughts running rampant in your mind.
I’ve done several interviews on the topic of Imposter Syndrome since launching my book. You can find them all under News & Events on my website, but here are two of the most recent that you may find helpful in navigating your way through Imposter Syndrome and how to provide support to those who may be dealing with it.
